Hunger is not only a global or nationwide problem; it is a local problem as well. Unfortunately, many children leave school on Friday afternoons for homes with empty cupboards and refrigerators. Backpack programs provide students with easy-to-open, nutritious food for the weekend during the school year. These programs are anonymous for children who would go hungry over the weekend. Southwest Missouri Cattlemen’s Association encourages you to check with your local school districts if you are interested in donating to a backpack program.
