Joyce Campbell hosted a surprise birthday party for her mother’s 85th birthday on July 6, 2009. Opal Owens, of Mt. Vernon, was really shocked to see so many of her family members come together to celebrate her day. There was a large gathering of about forty or more including children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. This was last year and since then she has had another birthday, her 86th, but it took me some time to come up with the right picture and thanks to my nephew and his wife, James and Cheryl Fisher, I came up with it.
I also want to thank my niece, Sheila Baker, for helping me set up things at the community building and taking care of the renting of it for me. She was a lot of help.
Those in attendance were her son James Jones and family, son, Donald Jones, daughter, Connie Daniel and family, daughter, Joyce Campbell and Leo Paul, all of Mt. Vernon, daughter May Fisher’s family from Kansas City and Mae’s son and his wife, James and Cheryl Fisher from Greenfield and granddaughter, Sheila Baker from Greenfield. Sherman Calhoun of Mt. Vernon came with mom.
Thanks to all of you for coming and making mom’s day. She was surprised and happy to see everyone and a good time was had by all. Of course, we all missed our brother, Lile, but we all knew in our hearts that he was there with us.
Love from all of us, Mom.
