A 27-year old Springfield man drowned about 3:30 p.m. Friday, while swimming just south of Crab Tree Cove in Stockton Lake.

George R. Rosales drowned after winds blew his grandfather’s unanchored sail boat away from him, Cpl. Jay Riley of the Missouri State Water Patrol District 1 said.
Rosales was sailing on the lake with his grandfather and girlfriend when he and his girlfriend decided to go swimming.

Rosales began to struggle as the winds blew the boat away from him but his girlfriend was able to reach the boat to grab a life jacket to throw to him but he went beneath the water and did not resurface, Riley said.

Rosales’ body was found by sonar in 100’ of water at 9:11 p.m. Saturday by the Missouri State Water Patrol diving team.

His body was taken to the Hackleman Funeral Home in El Dorado.
