Greenfield and Arcola Rural Fire Departments responded to a structure fire shortly after noon Monday at the Steve Walker farm, 2 miles east of Greenfield on US 160 Hwy to find a large barn totally engulfed in flames.
Steve was not home at the time of the blaze. His wife, Sonie, had stepped outside and discovered the blaze. She immediately called him and 911.

The barn contained 65 large round bales of hay, a new “New Holland” tractor, a Montana 5th wheel home, 2000 Elite horse trailer, big field sprayer, log splitter, veterinary boxes, car parts and many other items.
The horse trailer was pulled from the burning barn, heavily damaged. The barn and all other items were a total loss.

“There was no electricity to the barn and no one around. We have no idea how the fire started,” Walker said. “We want to thank the many firemen responding and are so thankful it wasn’t our home,” he said.
