Thanks to the great support, The Arcola Lions Club Fish Fry was a success. Even the 100 degree heat did not impact the enthusiasm for good fish and a good cause. The dinner was used as a fund raiser for the Leader Dogs for the Blind program supported by many Lions clubs across the nation. Other area Lions Clubs attended the Fish Fry in support of the Arcola Clubs goal of helping to fund training of a Leader Dog. To fully train a dog costs about $30,000 and takes 2 to 3 years.

The mission of Leader Dogs for the Blind is to enhance the lives of people who are blind and visually impaired. Leader Dog also provides dog guide training for people who are both deaf and blind,  accelerated cane travel training, specialized summer youth programs, and training in the use of auditory GPS technology to increase the ability of the user to travel independently in new environments. All services are provided free of charge to the recipient.

The officers and members of the Arcola Lions Club would like to thank all of those who support their fundraising activities. Your support allows for their continuation of providing Sight and Hearing services to those in need.

If you have interest in joining the Arcola Lions Club or would like to attend a meeting, contact membership chairperson Vera Beach at 424-3361. Meetings are the 2nd and 4th Monday night at 6:30 in the Arcola Community Building.
