September 12th, 1930 was a very special day. This was the day our mother Betty Lou Vandegrift was born. We thank God for this Jewell that we call MOM.
On Sunday, September 12th, 2010, it was another special day in history. Lucille Franklin went to church with Betty and she thought her daughter and spouse’s were going to come for church and take her out to lunch. She was disappointed when her sons were not in. Boy did she get surprised when they all marched in along with grandchildren and great grandchildren. Counting Lucille her special friend and her sister Mary Lee Marsh there were 37 in church to honor her. All her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren were there except granddaughter Shay, husband Zach and son Pearce who live in Texas.
What a day! Then granddaughter Katina Willard sang a solo for her grandmother. The preacher had all of her family stand and honor Betty. He asked her if she would have ever dreamed she would have been responsible for all these people. Of course she was all smiles. After church Betty was surprised to find out her children had lunch ready for her in the kitchen area. What a wonderful day we were having. Lots of pictures taken. Then another surprise as some other family members and friends started coming in at 2 for her surprise reception. We continued to have a wonderful fellowship with each other and hated to see the day end.
We want to thank the Liberty Baptist Church for allowing us to have all our activities at the church. This is the church that Betty raised all her children and the perfect setting for this special day. We are so thankful that we were raised by a Christian mother who continues to show us how much she loves us all every day. May God continue to bless her with good health so she can continue spreading her understanding and abundance of love to her family.
Betty has 5 children, 5 great son/daughter in laws, 12 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren.
We want to thank everyone that came out to help us make this such a special day for our mother.
God Bless each of you.
