Raymond Francis Estep

Raymond Francis Estep, Greenfield, Missouri, was born October 8, 1924, to Jack and Alma Estep near Miller, Missouri. He passed away on Friday, January 11, 2019, at the Dade County Nursing Home at the age of 94.

Goober, the name he proudly went by, graduated from Greenfield High School in 1942. He joined the U.S. Army in March 1943 and supported the 5th Air Force during World War II. He achieved the rank of corporal and spent three years serving his country in the south Pacific.

After the war, he was united in marriage to Bessie Kessler on March 26, 1948. They had recently celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary. Goober started work at The Empire District Electric Company in 1948, retiring from there 38 years later in 1987. He was a member of Liberty Baptist Church where he served as a deacon for 32 years. He enjoyed gardening, fishing and was an avid sports fan, especially when it came to the Kansas City Royals.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Hal Estep and Clyde Estep. He is survived by his wife Bessie; a brother, Keith Estep, of Greenfield; two daughters, Becky Moore and husband, Mike, of Springfield, Missouri; Sandy Divine and husband, Rex, of Stockton, Missouri; four grandchildren, Babette Moore, Michael Moore, Brad Divine, and Julie Bird; five great-grandchildren: Lauren Duncan, Brook Duncan, Brendon Bird, Brice Bird and Bowen Bird; and one great-great grandchild, King Duncan.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, January 15, 2019, at Liberty Baptist Church. Burial followed in Liberty Cemetery.
