Retired Sheriff, Wayne Spain

Retired Sheriff, Wayne Spain, of Greenfield, Missouri, departed this life on Wednesday, April 29, 2015, in his home at the age of 78 years.

He was born on October 21, 1936, in South Greenfield, Missouri, to Ellis Warren and Velma Leigh (Mohwinkle) Spain. Wayne graduated from Lockwood High School in 1955.

He was united in marriage to Deloris Ann Sorden on May 20, 1956, in the Bethlehem Baptist Church in Lockwood, Missouir. Wayne served as the Sheriff for Dade County for 16 continuous years. He was a member of the Missouri Retired Sheriffs Association.

Preceding him in death was his father, Ellis Warren Spain and one sister, Mary Louise Houston.

Survivors include his wife, Deloris Ann Spain; three sons: Kerry Wayne Spain and his wife, Cindy; Melvin Keith Spain and his wife, Sharon; and Kevin Warren Spain and his wife, Sheila; his mother, Velma Leigh Spain; two brothers, Ellis Leroy Spain and Carl Neal Spain; one sister, Andrea Renee Cross; eight grandchildren: Kimberly Mai, Matt Spain, Tiffany Beckner, Brandon Spain, Tristan Spain, Jason Spain, Miranda Olejniczak, and Trevor Spain; 12 great-grandchildren: Kiarra Mai, Bradon Spain, Grace Olejniczak, Johnny Spain, Emily Beckner, Chase Spain, Kohen Mai, Elijah Spain, Rylan Spain, Jessica Spiegel, Kristion Lobb, and Jazzmenn Luney; and host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 2, 2015, in Greenfield Funeral Chapel.

Burial followed in Kings Point Cemetery.

The family received friends on Friday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. in the funeral chapel.
