Gerald Dewayne Chaney

Gerald Dewayne Chaney, of Springfield, went home to be with Jesus, on Thursday, February 15, 2018, at the age of 84.

Gerald was born on April 5, 1933, to Glen Gerald and Edmonia (Nevins) Chaney, in Moberly, Missouri.
On September 4, 1953, Gerald and Gail (Huebert) were united in marriage; they shared over 64 years together.
Gerald was a machine designer and engineer. He was part of the Apollo project in the 1970s.
Gerald had many hobbies and they all involved him working with his hands. He enjoyed shooting, fishing, and camping. Recently, he had begun painting again and reminded everyone what a true artist he was.
His hobby since childhood was building and flying model airplanes. He continued this passion as long as he could.
Gerald loved his grandsons and spending time with them as much as possible. He will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by all those that knew and loved him.
Gerald is survived by his wife, Gail Chaney, of the home; son, David Chaney and wife, Christina, of California; daughter, Nancy Smithson and husband, Holland, of Springfield; six grandsons: Josh Smithson, Justin Smithson and wife, Brittany, Brian Smithson and wife, Rebekah, Daniel Smithson and wife, Debbie, Tyler Smithson, Glen Chaney; seven great grandchildren; other family and many friends.

Gerald was preceded in death by his parents.

Graveside services will be 11:00AM, Saturday, February 24, 2018, at Ash Grove Cemetery, Ash Grove, Missouri.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Diabetes Association and American Lung Association and may be left at the funeral home.
