The Dade County Sheriff's Office is investigating a shooting that reportedly occured in the rural Everton area. Sheriff Max Huffman said that his office and the Dade County prosecutor will release more information as it becomes available.

The following is a press release from the Dade County Sheriff's Office:

May 29, 2018

Late Sunday afternoon, the Dade County Sheriff’s Office responded to a request for service to check the well-being of a reported suicidal adult male. When the Deputy arrived at the rural Everton home he was confronted by an adult male with a knife that led to the use of deadly force and the death of the individual. Because this incident involved law enforcement and the use of deadly force, another county was contacted to conduct an independent investigation. The Lawrence County Sheriff's Office was contacted, and Sheriff Brad Delay immediately sent a team to conduct the investigation. Pursuant to policy, the Deputy involved has been placed on administrative leave until the investigation is completed, and he is cleared to return to duty. The Dade County Sheriff’s Office cannot release any further information due the ongoing nature of the investigation.
