Melvin L. Simmons

Melvin L. Simmons, 80, Stockton, was born January 29, 1938, and went to Heaven May 6, 2018, with family at his bedside.

Melvin moved to Stockton after retiring from General Motors in 1989 as a U.S. Army veteran.

During his wonderful 60 years of marriage with Loretta Simmons, Melvin loved to raise longhorn cattle and was a member of Amvets Post 116, Vikings and a Mason.

Survivors include his wife, Loretta Simmons of the home; two sisters, Alma Hines of Stockton and Patsy Bryant of Belton; a son, Kenneth Simmons; five grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Melvin had a nickname for his grandson, Christopher Pitcher, “Wild One;” his great-grandson, Braxton Pitcher, “Runt;” and son, Kenneth “Fat Boy.”

He was preceded in death by his parents, Omer and Nellie Simmons; a daughter, Vicki Mitchell; and a son, Darrel Simmons.

Memorial services will be 1 p.m., Sunday, June 24, at Amvets Post 116, four miles west of the Stockton square on Mo. 32. Information: 276-3414.
