A couple of musicians that grew up in the Greenfield area are putting their old band back together for a performance at the Greenfield Opera House on Saturday, Oct. 6, from 6-8:30 p.m.

David Dodson and Mike Fisher, together with bandmates John Bozek, Brad Jump, and Patrick Smith, will be performing a selection of classic rock from the ‘60s and ‘70s, much like they did in their old garage band days.

“In this line-up we’re performing mostly classic rock… but we’ve performed in various line-ups together over the years – we even backed an Elvis impersonator for while,” said Fisher.

Fisher said that he and Dodson first met and began playing music together while Dodson’s father was principal at Greenfield High School.

“It opened up a new world for me – and I’ve never forgiven him for it!” Fisher said as they both laughed.

When ask what his parents thought about his playing what was often called “boil the missionary” music around here in those days, Dodson said it wasn’t a problem.

“Both of my parents, my mom especially, were very supportive of our musical endeavors,” added Dodson.

The band in various permutations played in venues and at events in Lockwood, Stockton, Everton, and other area communities, but never performed much at home.

“We never really got to play in Greenfield, so we never escaped the ‘garage band’ reputation we had, in town,” said Fisher.

After graduating high school and moving away, Dodson has remained active in music and is a musician based out of the St. Louis area. Fisher now works as a visual effects technician at Missouri State University in Springfield.

“When Jack [Pugh] reached out to us about playing the Opera House, we saw it as an opportunity to give back to the community and have some fun,” said Fisher.

“The real story here is the Opera House – they’ve (Jack Pugh and David “B” Rhodes) put a lot of blood, sweat and tears into that place,” said Dodson. “It’s a fine performing venue and the folks in Greenfield should really be proud of it.

“We want folks to be able to come to the Opera House and enjoy some good music,” said Fisher. “So come out Oct. 6 and join us as the ‘The Boys Are Back in Town – For a Night at the Opera.’”
