James Howard Thorpe

James Howard Thorpe, of Greenfield, Missouri, departed this life on Monday, December 7, 2015, in the Dade County Nursing Home at the age of 84 years.

He was born on January 31, 1931 in Everton, Missouri, to John Howard and Beulah (Tolbert) Thorpe.

James served his country as a Corporal in the United States Army during the Korean War.

He was united in marriage to Mildred Irene Glenn on May 28, 1951, in Ash Grove, Missouri. James was a lifetime farmer and a member of the Liberty Baptist Church.

Preceding him in death were his parents, John Howard and Beulah Thorpe; his wife, Mildred Irene Thorpe, in February of 2004; two brothers, Kenneth Thorpe and Ralph Thorpe; and one sister, Margaret.

Survivors include his son, Steven Jay Thorpe and his wife, Sheila, of Dadeville, Missouri; grandchildren, Ashley Offill and her husband, Jordan and their daughter, Nora Irene Offill, and Alisha Thorpe; daughter, Shirley Burton and her husband, Gary, of South Greenfield, Missouri; daughter, Glenda of Greenfield, Missouri; grandchildren, Jenna Myers and Julia Myers; brother, Marvin Thorpe of Oklahoma; special friend, Barbara Jones; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, December 9, 2015, in Greenfield Funeral Chapel.

Burial followed in Dadeville Masonic Cemetery. The family received friends on Wednesday morning at 10:00 a.m. until service time in the funeral chapel.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Dade County Senior Citizens Center.
