ONLINE BRIEF: Dade County Visitor Tested Positive for the Coronavirus

June 05, 2020

The Dade County Health Department has announced that a recent visitor to Dade County has tested positive for the Coronavirus. The individual is not a resident of Dade County.

On June 2, 2020, prior to their diagnosis, the individual visited the Lockwood Municipal Golf Course from about 9 a.m. - 2 p.m., and later visited the Dollar General store in Greenfield between 2-3 p.m. The individual was not wearing a face covering at either time or place.

"This case is an important reminder for all of us to interact with our environment carefully," said Pamela Allen, health department administrator. "If someone is sick or thinks they may be sick, they should stay home."

COVID-19, the illness caused by this strain of Coronavirus is spread via droplets after an infected person coughs or sneezes, when people are in close contact with one another.

The DCHD is advising that Dade County residents:

- Avoid travel: Avoid travel, especially to areas that are COVID-19 "hot spots". If you choose to travel, we strongly recommend that you self-quarantine for 14 days when you return to Dade County.

- Know Symptoms: Symptoms to watch for are fever or chills, cough, shortness of breath or difficulty breathing, fatigue, muscle or body aches, headache, new loss of taste or smell, sore throat, congestion or runny nose, nausea or vomiting and diarrhea.

- Avoid Exposure: If you have been exposed to a known positive case of COVID-19, you will be contacted by the Health Department and asked to self-quarantine. If you have been potentially exposed in a public place, you should monitor yourself for symptoms for 14 days after your exposure. Contact your healthcare provider if you experience symptoms.

- Be Aware There Are No Vaccines/Cures: While there are several organizations working toward a vaccine and a cure for COVID-19, none of these are currently approved for use in humans.
