Fake Calls From The IRS

April 13, 2016

From the desk of Dade County Sheriff, Max Huffman

Law enforcement in Dade County and across the state has been receiving complaints about phone calls from the IRS.

These calls threaten to throw you in jail and/or take your property because of unpaid taxes.

The IRS will not call you about taxes but will notify you in writing about unpaid taxes or other tax problems.

These are fake calls that are trying to scare people to send money or convince you to reveal personal information. Do not give any information to these people, just hang up on them.

If you are contacted by these scammers, and you have the time please call and report them to the Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration at 1-800-366-4484.

You can also contact them at www.tigta.gov or www.irs.gov and search for "scam"
