2016 Spring Gather To Be Held In Miller

May 05, 2016

On Saturday, May 14th, Larry and Lisa Matthews, “Modern Missouri Pioneers” will be hosting the 2016 Spring Gathering at their rural Miller farm.
In addition to the Matthewses, several local people have collaborated to provide a day of educational sessions on various topics that support a self-sufficient lifestyle and back-to-basics living.
The goal for the day is to provide an opportunity to share knowledge and ideas in a variety of aspects of homesteading and back-to basics living.
Whether you think of yourself as a homesteader, prepper, farmer, or are simply interested in providing more for your family on your own, there is a lot to be learned during the Gathering.
The group is dedicated to providing information to enhance and encourage a back-to-basics lifestyle in our modern world. The event is put on with the help of friends from the SW Missouri Homesteaders Buy, Barter, Sell or Trade on Facebook (https://www. facebook.com/groups/SWMOHomesteaders/)
Session topics include information on feeding rabbits pellet free, caring for goats naturally, basic soap making, small animal processing, an introduction to bee keeping, amending your soil naturally for gardening success, and growing and using herbs.
The presenters are all experienced on their topic and enjoy sharing what they have learned. They are volunteering their time to provide presentations. Their generosity helps to make this a free admission day, however donations to offset other costs will be gratefully accepted if you wish to contribute.

The event is being held on the home/farm of Larry and Lisa Matthews.
Lisa founded the SW Missouri Homesteaders just over a year ago for a small group of friends who wanted to become less dependent on big box stores, processed foods and others for their daily needs.
This group has grown to over 1500 people in that short time.
Shortly after, she began the blog, “Modern Missouri Pioneers” as a way to further share and document information that she learned and used in her every day life. Posts can be found about a variety of topics from making your own cleaning products, to canning and preserving to raising your own food sources.
Lisa shares not only what works well for her family, but also shares what hasn’t worked so well. While working on the blog and sharing in the SW Missouri Homesteaders, the idea of getting together a group of individuals to share their own expertise in various areas began to take shape. The more it was discussed, the more appealing it became, and the 2016 Spring Gathering took shape.
“We have a wonderful group of experts right here in the Southwest Missouri area, that are more than willing to share information and help one another. It just took a little push and little time to make it all come together,” says Matthews. “We have high hopes that this will become at least a semi-annual event. I asked for help organizing and within a day had a wonderful group that has worked hard to put this all together. It will be nothing fancy, but is intended to be an informal exchange of information for the benefit of all.”

The sessions will begin at 9 a.m. and will conclude at 4:15 p.m. You will need to bring lawn chairs and are encouraged to bring a sack lunch.
An area will be provided to throw down a blanket and have an old-fashioned picnic, but no lunch is provided on site.
You are also invited to bring your cameras, notepads, and a friend.
