Celebrate America, Greenfield’s 175th Birthday

Celebrate America and Greenfield’s 175th Birthday will take place Saturday, June 25, 2016, from 9 a.m. til dark, at the Greenfield City Park.

Jim and Perry Ellis will be cooking pulled pork and hot dogs for lunch from 10:30 a.m. til 4 p.m. They will also serve chips and McAlister’s tea.

Bring out your cars for the car show. There is a $10 entry fee and each entry will receive a free ticket for lunch. Just cruise in; no pre-registration required. Three-$100 prizes will be awarded.

Bands this year are Back Porch Band, who will perform from noon til 1 p.m. and Stevie Newman, Clifton Boone, Marcus Chapman will perform from 6 p.m. til 9 p.m.

Melissa Clark will offer face painting.

The city pool will be open for free swim.

There is a 50/50 raffle with the drawing occurring at 8 p.m. for half of the pot.

The birthday party for Greenfield’s 175th birthday is being sponsored by Bob Jackson. All former residents, teachers, city officials and former preachers are invited to attend. Prizes will be given for yougest attendee, oldest attendee, person who traveled the fartherest and biggest family in attendance.

Hope Campbell will be making 100 cupcakes in the form of a flag that will read Happy 175th Birthday, Greenfield.

Back Porch Band will lead the crowd in singing happy birthday to Greenfield.

Senator Ron Richards and Bob Jackson will address the crowd at 8 p.m.

Don Keys will lead the presentation of colors and Carrie Ruark will sing the National Anthem.

Be sure to enter the tournaments for volleyball, basketball, tug-o-war and tether ball. Prizes sponsored by That Place.

The community center will be open through out the day as a cool down place with indoor games like dominoes, cards and bingo available.

In addition to lunch, other food vendors are: the Booster Club will offer dinner; Arcola Lions Club, funnel cakes; kettle corn; That Place, ice cream, nachos, Pepsi products; Dade County Democrats Club, iced tea and lemonade; and Project Graduation, flavored popcorn and sno cones.

Emcee for the day will be Michael Hargis.

Fireworks will begin at dark.
