Emma Leigh Wedgwood

May 22, 2015

Our wonderful mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, Emma Leigh Wedgwood, 92, passed away on May 10, 2015, Mothers Day, at Bel Aire Senior Residence Center in American Fork, Utah.

Leigh, as she liked to be called, was born on a farm outside Lockwood, Missouri, on July 4, 1922, to James Blaine Lack and Sarah Marguerite Dodson. She had many happy memories of growing up there and loved to return to Dade County as often as possible!

After high school graduation, Mother attended Drury College in Springfield, Missouri, for a time. In 1941, after her mothers passing, Leigh went out to Southern California to work. When WWII started, she went to Washington, DC, to help in the war effort by working at the Pentagon,

Mother had met our father, Orrin Wesley Wedgwood, while working in California. They were married in Tampa Florida, on September 4, 1943.

Orrin and Leigh had two daughters; Kathryn Leigh born in 1948 in Los Angeles; and Kolleen Lynn, born in 1958 in San Bernardino, California.

In 1968, Leigh and her family moved to American Fork, Utah, from California. Shortly thereafter, she opened her health food store, Wasatch Nutrition, which she devoted her life to for over 41 years! She so enjoyed being able to educate and help her customers and friends improve their health.

Leigh joined the LDS Church in 1954 while our family was living in San Diego. Living and sharing the Gospel and her love of the Savior were among her greatest joys! She served a mission for the church in Toronto, Canada 1976 1978.

Mother was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Bill and Jim; nephews, Blaine and Rip; and niece, Dorothy; her husband, Orrin; and grandson, Stephen Drake.

She is survived by her daughters: Kathryn Drake and Kolleen DeGraff (Brent); her grandchildren: Michael, Jim (Yvonne), Ellen (Johnny), Breanne (Andrew), Ty (Sariah), Brad, Ryann, Broch, Sarah, and also by her 11 great grandchildren, as well as extended family in Dade County.
