Virginia Lea Burton, aged 90, of Springfield, Missouri, passed away on Friday, July 4, 2025, due to complications from dementia. Born on August 29, 1934, in Springfield, Missouri, she was the daughter of Roy Carter Stockton and Vernice Fern Strange Stockton.
Her early years were spent moving between Dade County, Missouri, and Exeter, California, where she developed a passion for roller-skating and trick skating, even working as a skating car hop.
Virginia moved to Everton, Missouri, during her high school years, where she excelled as a softball catcher for the Tigers, graduating from Everton High School in 1952. Shortly after, she married Gary Keith Burton on September 27, 1952, and together they raised two sons, Willard Keith (Bill) and Bryan Scott, in Springfield.
While Gary worked for the Federal Bureau of Prisons and managed the family farm, Virginia dedicated herself to homemaking and raising their sons. She also contributed her skills in administrative roles at Monday Plumbing and Willard Family Chiropractic. A long-time member of the Everton Presbyterian Church, Virginia was cherished for her sense of humor, immaculate home, and caring nature.
Virginia is preceded in death by her parents; her beloved husband Gary; and her sister, Alma Mae Keys. She is survived by her sons Bill and Scott, their spouses Kathie and Brenda, her grandchildren Matthew (Heather), Todd (Kristen), Nicole, and Natalie, and her great-grandchildren Chloe, Cameron, Reese and Reagan.
A graveside service was held on Thursday, July 10, 2025 at 10 a.m. at Shiloh Cemetery near Everton. The family extends special thanks to the caregivers at The Gardens and Cox Hospice.
