Eloise Hurst

Eloise Hurst, age 92, passed away November 8, 2016, in Springfield, Missouri.
Eloise was born, March 22, 1924, to Jones Polk Campbell and Ida Jewel Holman Campbell on the family farm near Aldrich. She was a descendant of the pioneer Campbell family of Greene and Polk counties.
Eloise graduated from Marion C. Early High School in Morrisville and attended Southwest Baptist College in Bolivar.
She married Joe Allison Hurst, August 15, 1942 and they spent their married life in the Lawrenceburg community. She attended the Lawrenceburg Methodist Church.

She is survived by her daughter, Linda Ditzler and her husband, Dan, of Mount Vernon; her sons: Kevin Hurst and his wife, Beth, and Kent Hurst and his wife, Melody, all of Lawrenceburg. Also surviving is her sister, Virginia Roedder and her brother, John Polk Campbell of Bolivar. She is also survived by eight grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.
She is preceded by her parents; her husband of 50 years, Joe Allison Hurst; her sons: Joe Quinn Hurst, James Brent Hurst; an infant son; and her sister, Carolyn Bays.
Eloise moved from Lawrenceburg to Mount Vernon in 2008 due to health issues and to be closer to her daughter. She remained interested in the daily operation of the family farm and took an interest in the lives of her children and grandchildren. She enjoyed attending the Mount Vernon Senior Center. She was a voracious reader, exhausting the supply of large print books from the local library.
Visitation was held Friday, November 11, 2016, in the Wilson Griffin Funeral Home, Ash Grove. Graveside services were Friday in John’s Chapel Cemetery, near Ash Grove, Missouri.

Donations in her memory may be made to the Mount Vernon Senior Center, Mount Vernon and can be left at the funeral home.
