Richard L Tefertiller, 75, of Greenfield, Missouri, passed away peacefully at his home on Sunday, August 31, 2025.
Richard was born on August 1, 1950, in Greenfield, Missouri, to Hiram Tefertiller and Marjorie McConnell Drake. He was preceded in death by his parents; stepfather, Melvin Drake; brothers, Larry, Jerry, and James Tefertiller; and sister, Mildred Vaughn.
He is survived by his devoted wife, Nita Kay Tefertiller (Adams); his son, Richard L. Tefertiller, Jr. (Rachel) of Florence, South Carolina; his stepson, Chad Daniel (Cathy) of Lockwood; and his stepdaughters, Christal Allen of Webb City and Chasity Roberts of Greenfield. He will be lovingly remembered by his grandchildren: Jessika Hanger, Matthew Bishop, Chandler Roberts, Kenneth Hickman, Kendall Burk, Kona Daniel, and Easton Roberts; and his great-grandchildren: Camden Bishop, Hayes Dees, Kylan Bishop, and Brecken Hanger.
Richard proudly served his country as a Petty Officer Second Class in the United States Navy, Submarine Service, Nuclear Trained. He was stationed aboard the USS George Bancroft (SSBN-643), Blue Crew, from 1967 to 1975, during the Vietnam War era and the height of the Cold War. Following his military service, Richard built a career working in nuclear power at the Robinson Nuclear Plant in Hartsville, South Carolina.
Beyond his career and service, Richard was a world-class pool player and an avid hunter who enjoyed time spent outdoors. He will be remembered for his sharp mind, competitive spirit, and the love he had for his family.
Graveside services were held on Monday, September 8, 2025, at 2 p.m. at Greenfield Cemetery in Greenfield, Missouri. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
