Nadine Smith

Nadine Smith, a native of Lockwood, Missouri, and a resident of Baton Rouge, Louisianna, departed this life on Tuesday, November 22, 2016, in Sunrise Senior Living on Siegen, Baton Rouge, at the age of 92 years.
She was born October 14, 1924, in Lockwood, Missouri, to Dewey M. and Bernice (Maxwell) Knier. Nadine was united in marriage to John L. Schneider on August 27, 1944, in Lockwood, Missouri, who preceded her in death.
She was united in marriage to Everett L. Smith, on August 8, 1958, in Springfield, Missouri, who also preceded her in death.
In addition to her husbands, she was preceded in death by her parents; her sister and brother-in-law, Pauline and Arthur Carrier; and brother-in-law, Paul Murrell.
She is survived by her daughter, Judith Sylvester of Baton Rouge; two granddaughters, Jennifer and Janelle Sylvester of Austin, Texas; her step daughter and son-in-law, Joan and Jerry Rutter of Corpus Christy, Texas; and three sisters and two brothers-in-law: Vinita Murrell of Columbia, Missouri; Duetta and Jim Edwards of Salem, Missouri; and Martha and Roy Fortner of Lee’s Summit, Missouri. She also is survived by 12 nieces and nephews, former studdents, other relatives and friends.

Nadine, a graduate of Lockwood, Missouri, High School, received her AA degree from Southwest Baptist University, her B.S. in Education degree from Southwest Missouri State University and her Masters in guidance and counseling from Kansas State University. She also attended the Louisville, KY, Baptist Theological Seminary.
She taught elementary school in Miller, Missouri, and Home Economics in Miller, Greenfield and Lockwood high schools for several years. She then was the guidance counselor at Lockwood, Stockton, Laquey and Richland school systems in Missouri prior to her retirement.
She resided in Lockwood, Missouri, most of her life. She moved to Baton Rouge, Louisianna, in 2011 to be near her daughter and granddaughters. She was a longtime member of the Lockwood Baptist Church and was a member of Broadmoor Baptist Church in Baton Rouge.
She received the Lifetime Service Award from Southwest Baptist University and numerous other teaching and service awards.
She held fast to her Baptist faith all her life and provided a large amount of service to her churches, schools and communities. All who knew her, loved and admired her.
Services, officiated by her nephew, Reverend Nolan Carrier. were held Sunday, November 27, 2016, at the Lockwood Baptist Church. Interment was at the Lockwood Cemetery.
