Barbara Sue Manning, age 79, of Mt. Vernon, Missouri, passed away at 3:24 a.m. on Tuesday, October 14, 2025, at Lawrence County Manor in Mt. Vernon, Missouri. She was born January 10, 1946, in Miller, Missouri, the daughter of Homer and Sue Ella (Smith) Allen.
Barbara was a 1964 graduate of Miller High School, in Miller, Missouri, and the Springfield School of Cosmetology. Barbara was a cosmetologist and owned her own shop and did babysitting. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Mt. Vernon.
On April 3, 1965, she married David Lynn Manning in Miller, Missouri. He preceded her in death on March 9, 2016.
Barbara is survived by three daughters, Angela Fryer of Fort Bragg, North Carolina; Christie Townley and her husband, Bruce, of Golden City, Missouri; and Elaine Wendler and her husband, Steve, of Mt. Vernon, Missouri; one son, Nathan Manning and his wife, Edwina, of Mt. Vernon, Missouri; nine grandchildren: Danessa Fryer, Sarah (Jordan) Linehan, Rebekah, Noah and Micah Townley, Alauria, Brooke and Curtis Wendler and Nealon (Danielle) Manning; one sister, Sarah Jane Mullins and her husband, Tom, of Monett, Missouri; brother-in-law, Johnny Asher of Miller, Missouri; two aunts, Margaret Phillips of Raytown, Missouri and Ruth Green of Mt. Vernon, Missouri and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Barbara was preceded in death by her parents, Homer and Sue Ella Allen; her husband, David Manning; grandson, Dadrian Fryer and four sisters, Mary (Dorse) Hinkle, Fannie (Leroy) Wiese, Eula (James) Topper and Doris Asher
A funeral service under the direction of the Fossett-Mosher Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon was held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, October 18, 2025, at the First Baptist Church in Mt. Vernon. Burial followed at the Mt. Vernon City Cemetery. Visitation was held from 6–8 p.m. on Friday, October 17, 2025, at the church.
Memorial donations may be made to the First Baptist Church Endowment Fund in care of the funeral home.
