Edward Beck

Edward “Ed, Eddie” Beck, 79, of Greenfield, Missouri, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Wednesday, October 29, 2025. He was born on December 7, 1945, to Edward and Mona Beck in Granby, Missouri, and was raised in Ritchey, Missouri.

Ed is survived by his loving wife of 58 years—and his teenage sweetheart—Carolyn (Emack) Beck; his son, Ben Beck, and wife, Nettie; his daughter, Tona Heydt; his grandchildren: Michaela Beck, Breanna Beck, and Cole Heydt; and Ed’s sister, Deb Peinado. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews whom he deeply loved.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Mona Beck, and his sister, Phyllis Pearson.

Ed’s family meant the world to him and he poured out his love and affection on them every single day. He was a devoted husband to Carolyn; faithful, protective, and caring to the very end. He was the kind of dad who would drop everything to be there for his kids, and grandkids. As a proud and playful “PaPa.” He loved cheering on his grandchildren alongside Grandma, celebrating their accomplishments, and teasing them just enough to make them laugh. His greatest joy was being part of their lives; showing up, building memories, and leaving a legacy of faith, laughter, and love.

Ed proudly served his country in the United States Army and was a member of both the American Legion and the Masonic Lodge. Most importantly, Ed made the decision to follow Jesus in his early 20’s and faithfully served Him throughout his life. He was a devoted member of Emmanuel Baptist Church, where he served in many ways. Ed and Carolyn also ministered through the Volunteer Christian Builders, helping to construct churches across the region each summer, a group that became their “summer family.” 

He and Carolyn shared a love for adventure and travel, journeying together to all 50 states and a few other countries, many of those trips shared with beloved family and friends.   

Ed was a faithful servant, a man of integrity, and strong-willed in all the best ways. He spent his entire career working for the railroad, where his dedication and work ethic were well known. He was truly a “jack of all trades, master of none.” There was nothing he wouldn’t try to build or fix. He loved woodworking and creating gifts for others—from handmade rocking horses for children to beautiful furniture and cabinetry. His craftsmanship can be found in his home, his church, and in the homes of his family and friends.

Known as the life of the party, Ed was a loving teddy bear of a man—a jokester, a joyful spirit, affectionate and every kid knew he had candy in his pocket for them. He always had a smile to share and a kind word to offer along with a tear to shed.

Ed loved God, his wife, his family, and his friends. He never met a stranger and was quick to offer a helping hand. His humor, orneriness, generosity, and kind spirit will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

Visitation was held from 5–7 p.m. on Wednesday, November 5, 2025, at Emmanuel Baptist Church, 624 Russell St., Greenfield, MO 65661.

A funeral service followed at 10 a.m. on Thursday, November 6, 2025, at the same location.

Ed will be laid to rest at Newtonia Cemetery, Granby, Missouri, at 2:30 p.m. on Thursday, November 6, 2025.
