James Holmes

James R. “Jim” Holmes, Jr., of Lockwood, Missouri, departed this life on Thursday, January 1, 2026, in the Good Shepherd Community Care and Rehabilitation Facility at the age of 86.

He was born on November 19, 1939 in Tulsa, Oklahoma, to James R. Holmes, Sr. and Elizabeth (Riley) Holmes.  Jim graduated from Central High School in Tulsa, Oklahoma and received his Bachelors Degree from Westminster College in Fulton, Missouri.  

He served his country in the United States National Guard.  

Jim was united in marriage to Beverly A. Lowe on October 28, 1966, in Lockwood, Missouri. He worked throughout his life as a carpenter and could fix about anything  Jim was an avid hunter

He served as an Alderman for the Lockwood City Council from 1998 to 2010.  Jim served as the treasurer for many years for the Lockwood Chamber of Commerce.  He also was on the board for the Good Shepherd Nursing Home and for the Farm Bureau Insurance Company.

Preceding him in death were his parents, James Holmes, Sr. and Elizabeth Holmes; and two brothers, Mark Holmes and Ralph Holmes.

Survivors include his wife, Dr. Beverly Holmes of the home; one daughter, Sara Holmes of Lockwood, Missouri; one brother, Barry Holmes of Tulsa, Oklahoma; one brother-in-law, Rodney Lowe and wife, Nancy of Greenfield, Missouri; one sister-in-law, Linda Lowe of Redway, California; and a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

The family received friends on Wednesday, January 7, 2025, from 1 to 3 p.m. at Greenfield Funeral Chapel.  

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Carthage Humane Society.
