Douglas ‘Doug’ Scott

Douglas Lynn “Doug” Scott, of Ash Grove, Missouri, passed away on, Thursday, January 22, 2026, at the age of 83. Doug was born on July 31, 1942, in Imperial, Nebraska.
With a father who liked to move around, Doug spent his childhood in Madrid, Nebraska; Marionville (Logan), Missouri; and later returned to Madrid.
When he was in the seventh grade, he moved to Julesburg, Colorado, where he formed lifelong friendships.
In 1959, Doug moved to Willard, Missouri, and graduated from Willard High School in 1960. He attended SMS (now MSU) while farming alongside his dad on the family farm.
Doug met the love of his life, Frankie Kay Wilmesherr, and they were married on July 31, 1965. Together, they shared over 60 years of marriage.
Doug worked at Royal Typewriter and later at the Springfield News-Leader, where he served as a pressman for 19 years. During this time, he also drove a school bus part-time for Willard Schools.
In 1982, Doug and Frankie purchased a farm outside of Ash Grove, where he farmed and raised cattle while also working for Ash Grove Schools as a bus driver. He proudly served in that role for 27½ years.
Doug enjoyed deer and turkey hunting, along with special trips back to Nebraska for pheasant hunting. He also loved camping with friends.
In 1986, Doug and Frankie purchased their first draft horse. Over the years, they built a six-horse Percheron hitch and showed at fairs throughout Missouri, Kansas, Oklahoma, Texas, and Iowa.
In 1995, Doug won the World Champion Men’s Cart Class at the World Percheron Congress in Kansas City with his favorite gelding, Jon.
Doug enjoyed attending sporting events for his favorite college teams and faithfully supported his nieces and nephews at their sporting events. He loved country music shows in Branson, dining at Cracker Barrel, enjoying Braum’s ice cream, and taking rides in his sports car.
Doug was a member of Willard Mt. Zion Presbyterian Church and, in later years, the Sac River Cowboy Church, which held a very special place in his heart. He looked forward to attending every Sunday.
Doug was preceded in death by his parents, Floyd and Frances Scott; his father- and mother-in-law, Frank and Sue Ann (Suzie) Wilmesherr; his brother, Max Scott; and his niece, Kristen Scott.
He leaves behind his beloved wife, Frankie; his sisters, Shelia Austin and Pam (Roy) Robinson; his sister-in-law, Jackie Scott; along with many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends. His nieces and nephews held a very special place in his heart.
The family extends sincere thanks to the caregivers of the Ash Grove Healthcare Facility for the love and excellent care shown during Doug’s residency.
Doug’s family, friends, church family, and his feline companion, Trix, meant the world to him. Doug will truly be missed.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations can be made to Sac River Cowboy Church, Willard Mt. Zion Presbyterian Church, Ash Grove Healthcare Facility, or the Salvation Army and may be left with the funeral home.
Visitation will be 5-7 p.m., Tuesday, January 27, 2026, at Wilson-Griffin Funeral Home, Ash Grove.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m., Wednesday, January 28, 2026, at the funeral home, with burial to follow at Hazelwood Cemetery, Springfield, Missouri.
