Garrett Daniel McGee, age 33, of Mt. Vernon, Missouri, passed away early Wednesday morning February 11, 2026.
Garrett was a loving husband, father, son, brother, grandson, son-in-law, brother-in-law, nephew, cousin, and friend.
Garrett is survived by his wife, Anita; his children: Logan, Lauren, Lilah, Lucy, and Lena; his parents, Phillip and Cindy McGee of Rolla, Missouri; two sisters: Caitlin Shelton and her husband, Jeremy, of Republic, Missouri; and Sarah Caplinger and husband, Tanner, of Willard, Missouri; his grandmother, Kay Lacey of Ottawa, Kansas; parents-in-law, Mike and Dyanne Branscum of Springfield, Missouri; sister-in-law, Shyanne Farabee and her husband, Jason, of Mt. Vernon, Missouri; and many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and loving friends.
Garrett was born on September 4, 1992, at the Naval Air Station in Lemoore, California. The family moved to Willard, Missouri, in 2002. Garrett graduated from Willard High School in 2010.
Anita and Garrett were married in July of 2011. Garrett served in the United States Army as a Military Handler in the K-9 unit. He served almost eight years.
After his military career, the family settled in Mt. Vernon, Missouri. He began his career with the Federal Medical Prison System.
Garrett and his family are members and very active in their church, First Baptist Church of Mt. Vernon, Missouri.
Garrett was a man of great character. Everywhere he went, he was known for his work ethic, quick wit, stubbornness, loyalty, and as an abundant source of useless information.
He was an avid Braves Fan and outdoorsmen. He loved to fish and hunt and enjoyed cooking.
Above all else, his greatest passion was his family. His love for his wife and kids was truly infectious and became stronger with every passing day.
Garrett was preceded in death by his K9 partner, Bobek; grandparents;, great-grandparents and aunts and uncles.
While Garrett will be missed greatly, we will cherish our reunion with him in the presence of the Lord.
A celebration of Garrett’s life was held at 4 p.m. on Monday, February 16, 2026, at the First Baptist Church in Mt. Vernon, Missouri, with a reception to follow at the church.
Arrangements are under the direction of Fossett-Mosher Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon, Missouri.
