Dale L. Cooper

Dale L. Cooper, of Bolivar, Missouri, formerly of Greenfield, Missouri, passed away on Wednesday, January 18, 2017, in his home at the age of 83 years.
He was born September 6, 1933, in Appleton City, Missouri, to Orville “Dick” and Thelma (Shoemaker) Cooper. Dale was very pleased to share the same birthdate with his great-granddaughter, Elliana.
Upon graduation from high school, he began his career with the Missouri State Highway Department and secured the position of area supervisor over the Dadeville, Greenfield, and Stockton facilities in 1970. He held this position until his retirement in November 1988. Upon his retirement from MODOT, he spent several years working for the Center Township in Dade County.
On September 14, 1957, he married Janet Arlene Dines. Together they shared 59 years of marriage.
Dale enjoyed quail hunting as long as his health would permit him to do so. He was usually very successful with each of his hunting trips. Occasionally, he would spend some time fishing, but hunting was his greatest passion besides mowing the lawn. Dale was known to keep his yard in pristine condition. Even after moving to a duplex in Bolivar, he insisted on purchasing a lawn mower because the lawn wasn’t kept to his standard.
He served two years in the United States Army. Dale was a member of the Washington Lodge #87 A.F. & A.M.
Preceding him in death were his parents; a brother, Forrest Cooper; and an infant son, Michael.
His survivors include his wife, Janet, of the home; a daughter, Brenda McGill and husband, Dennis, of Walnut Grove, Missouri; a son, Ricky Cooper, Sr., of Bolivar, Missouri; a brother, Donald Cooper and wife, Ann, of Hiawassi, Georgia; and a sister-in-law, Joyce Cooper, of Nevada, Missouri. He also leaves behind four grandsons: Curtis McGill (Charity), Brandon McGill (Laurie), Dustin McGill (Meryah), Ricky Cooper Jr. (Jemi), and ten great- grandchildren. Other survivors include three nephews and two young men who spent a lot of time in his home and held a special place in his heart, Chad Adams and Hayden Shepard.
Graveside services were held Monday, January 23, 2017, in Kidds Chapel Cemetery in Lowry City, Missouri. The family received friends on Sunday in Greenfield Funeral Chapel.
In lieu of flowers, the family request memorial contributions may be made to CMH Hospice Care of Bolivar, Missouri. Online condolences may be shared at www.greenfieldfuneralchapel.com. Services were under the care of Greenfield Funeral Chapel.
