City of Everton Mayor Resigns

by Krista Guy

At the Board of Alderman Meeting on July 8, 2026 Pro Tem Mayor Ray Shearer announced Mayor Vicky Cole had submitted her resignation. The resignation comes after the Board requested her voluntarily resignation in May and following a censure of the Mayor in June.

The resignation read as follows:

Vicky Cole
Everton, MO
65646
Date: July 8, 2026
To the Citizens of Everton, the Board of Aldermen, and City Staff,
After careful consideration, I have made the difficult decision to resign from my position as Mayor of the City of Everton, effective immediately.
I want to make it clear that this decision is not an admission of wrongdoing, nor is it an acknowledgment of the allegations that have recently been made against me. I continue to firmly deny the false accusations and misinformation that have been circulated regarding my service to this community.
Throughout my time as mayor, I have acted in what I believed to be the best interests of the City of Everton and its residents.
However, the increasing division and controversy surrounding these matters have created a situation that threatens to distract from the important work that must continue on behalf of our citizens. The people of Everton deserve the focus to be on the community rather than ongoing conflict and myself. For that reason, I believe stepping aside is the most responsible course of action
