Harlan Reuter

Harlan Joseph Reuter, age 68, of Lockwood, Missouri departed from this world on Wednesday, August 5, 2026 at Cox Barton County Hospital, Lamar, Missouri, after a brief battle with cancer.

Harlan was born on September 26, 1957 to James and Darlene (Kremer) Reuter in Dubuque, Iowa. Working alongside his eight siblings on the family farm, Harlan developed a deep appreciation for family and the value of hard work.

At the age of 18, he met the love of his life, Delores. Together they built a wonderful life raising their family, traveling, enjoying nature, and volunteering in their community. Harlan and Delores recently celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary.

When not with his family, Harlan enjoyed working in the fields and helping others. He took pride in straightly planted, high-yield crops and a good honest hard day of work. 

After retiring, he picked up woodworking and delighted in building items for others. Some of his favorite projects were making bed frames for Dream Big, Little One, a charity in Golden City that provides beds for kids in need and creating wooden cars for the Christmas shoebox project. 

Harlan’s strong faith called him to live a life with a servant’s heart. He was a longtime member of Saint Patrick’s Catholic Church in Greenfield where he willingly served in any capacity that the church needed. Harlan truly had a desire to help anyone in need.

Harlan took his role as the patriarch of the family very seriously. His strong work ethic, generosity, and selflessness provided a wonderful role model for his children and grandchildren. 

He was always willing to assist his family in any way he could. Harlan would answer any phone call or text and drop everything to help fix a problem. He kept busy attending the activities of his 10 grandchildren and enjoyed the moments when his family could gather together. 

Harlan is survived by his loving wife, Delores (Ginter) Reuter and his three children: Jennifer (Justin) Ogden of Lamar, Benjamin (Jayme) Reuter of Cassville, and Jillian (Richard) Dills of Blue Springs. He is also survived by 10 grandchildren: Cooper, Sadie (Zach), Veronica, Ella, Joseph, Claire, Gavin, Brandt, Mya, Lucy and one great-grandchild: Everett. Additionally, Harlan is survived by siblings: Rick, Ron, Jim, Bob, Paul, Dixie, and Brenda, as well as a large extended family. 

Harlan is preceded in death by his parents, James and Darlene and brother, Eugene. 

Funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, August 15, 2026, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, with burial to follow at Pippenger Cemetery. 

The family will receive friends on the evening of Friday, August 14, 2026, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Greenfield Funeral Chapel. 

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or to Dream Big, Little One in Golden City. 

Services are under the care of Greenfield Funeral Chapel.
