Harold Corwin
August 20, 2026
Harold Lee Corwin, of Miller, Missouri, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family at 2:09 p.m. on Sunday, August 16, 2026, at the Missouri Veterans Home in Mt. Vernon, Missouri. Harold fought a hard battle with Dementia with Lewy Bodies.
Harold was born to Carl and Mary (Jones) Corwin in Miller, Missouri, on July 16, 1945. He attended Miller High School with the Class of 1964. On July 12, 1965, Harold proudly joined the United States Army and went on to serve his country in Korea.
Harold was a member of Chesapeake Baptist Church, the Miller Lions Club, and the American Legion.
On September 5, 1968, Harold married the love of his life, Doris (Carter) Mason. Doris brought two children into their marriage, Theresa Ann Mason and Robert Stanley Mason. Together, Harold and Doris welcomed their daughter, Tina Michelle Corwin. Their 36 years together were filled with family, adventures, laughter, and countless memories.
Harold began his working life as an over-the-road truck driver. His CB handle was “Grease Monkey,” while Doris was known as the “Check Out Lady.” The two later owned and operated the Dairy Queen in Miller, Missouri. Harold also drove a school bus for Miller R-II Schools, where he quickly became a favorite among the students. He loved teasing the kids—and occasionally scaring them.
One memorable adventure took Harold and a busload of students to the famous Spook Light near Joplin. The excitement was so great that some of the kids were trying to climb through the windows to get back onto the bus. Harold loved creating memories with the young people he drove.
Harold and Doris also enjoyed spending time at Stockton Lake. Their boat was often filled with teenagers waiting their turn for a ride of a lifetime with Harold driving. They could also frequently be found at the racetrack, helping keep race cars running. In the midst of all their adventures, Harold and Doris found time to enjoy square dancing and were members of the Miller Whirla Ways.
Later, Harold and Doris owned and operated Harold’s Wrecker Service & Garage. Harold’s mechanical talents eventually led to a job offer that changed his life. He went to work for Dale Blevins as the head mechanic for Blevins Asphalt. Dale was not only a respected employer but also a dear friend to Harold.
Harold suffered the loss of Doris, the love of his life, after her long battle with cancer in 2005. Together, they shared 36 years of marriage. Doris’s children, Theresa and her family, and Stanley and his family, survive her.
Harold later married Charlotte Johnson of Urbana. Charlotte preceded him in death in 2020. Her son, Jimmy, survives.
Harold continued working with his daughter and son-in-law at Hills Automotive until dementia eventually prevented him from working. He lived with his daughter and son-in-law until moving to the Missouri Veterans Home, where he received phenomenal care in his final years and was known as “happy go lucky” he was loved by all who cared for him there.
Harold is survived by his daughter, Tina, and her husband, Jay Hill, of Mt. Vernon, Missouri; four grandchildren, Tylar Hill and wife, Kaylen of Miller, Missouri, Summar Boggs and husband, Texe of Sarcoxie, Missouri, Isaac Hill and wife, Kelsey of Mt. Vernon, Missouri and Hope Hill of Mt. Vernon, Missouri; eight great-grandchildren, Adeline, Cade, and Josie Hill of Miller, Missouri, Charlie, Liberty, and Elliott Boggs of Sarcoxie, Missouri and Raylee and Abraham Hill of Mt. Vernon, Missouri. Harold is also survived by his brother, Raymond Corwin and wife, Nilajo of Springfield, Missouri and sister-in-law, Sharon Corwin of Aurora, Missouri.
Harold was preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Mary Corwin; the love of his life, Doris Corwin; his second wife, Charlotte Corwin; three sisters, infant Geraldine Corwin, Faye Morris, and Fern Heard; two brothers, Vincel Corwin and Donald Corwin; his great-grandson, Landon Boggs; sister-in-law, Sugg Corwin and brothers-in-law, Harold Morris and James Heard.
Harold was known for his smile, kind heart, willingness to help anyone, his ability to give you directions to just about anywhere, and, of course, his orneriness! He loved running up and down the road, and his favorite way to do so was in the big rig. But he also enjoyed giving rides to customers, hitchhikers, or anyone who needed it, as he would say, “needed a buggy ride.” He loved to laugh, especially if he was the one scaring you!
Most of all, Harold loved his family. He gave the best hugs and was a kind and caring husband, dad, papa, brother, uncle, and friend. Harold will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who knew and loved him.
A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 22, 2026, at Morris-Leiman-Mosher Funeral Home in Miller, Missouri, with a burial to follow at the Miller Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be held from 6:00-8:00 p.m. on Friday, August 21, 2026, in the funeral home chapel.
