Colton ‘Gage’ Edwards
August 27, 2026
Colton “Gage” Edwards, 21, formerly of Ash Grove, Missouri, passed away Wednesday, August 19, 2026 in Belfield, North Dakota.
Gage was born on September 20, 2004, in Springfield, Missouri, to Scott Edwards and Nicki Lynn (Hammons) Edwards. Gage spent his early years in Missouri before moving with his family to North Dakota. The family eventually settled in the Belfield area, where Gage graduated from Belfield High School in 2023.
Much of Gage’s life was spent around cattle and the livestock industry. He worked for Open A Angus for many years and competitively showed registered Simmental cattle. Through showing livestock, Gage traveled, competed, and became part of a community that meant a great deal to him. He made friends everywhere he went, but some of his closest connections were made in the show world. His interests and abilities took him in many different directions, and there wasn’t much he wouldn’t try or learn to do.
That same curiosity carried into many other parts of his life. Gage enjoyed working on old pickups with his dad and was mechanically inclined, always willing to figure out how something worked or what it would take to get it running again. He had recently earned his CDL and his private pilot’s license, developing a love for aviation and adding another accomplishment to the many things he set his mind to.
Gage was deeply patriotic and had a great love for his country. If asthma had not prevented him from doing so, he would have proudly served in the military. Instead, he found another way to serve as a firefighter. At the time of his passing, Gage was preparing to head out West to help fight forest fires. His bag was packed and he was ready to go when the call came.
When he wasn’t working or pursuing his many interests, Gage enjoyed hunting and being outdoors. He was also a true concert enthusiast and loved the experience of live music and attending concerts.
Gage approached life with determination and an eagerness to make the most of every opportunity.
In his short years, he accomplished much, formed friendships across many different walks of life, and left lasting memories with those who knew and loved him. He will be deeply missed.
Gage is survived by his parents, Scott and Nicki Edwards; grandparents, Tony Hammons, Kay Edwards, and John and Barbara Edwards; great-grandfather, Bud Edwards; aunts, Kathy Chaffin and Tawny (Cory) Adamson; special cousin, Genia Giggy; along with numerous extended family members and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his great-grandmother, Kathy Edwards; great-grandparents, James and Wilma Hammons; great-grandparents, Russell and Juanita Chaffin and great, great-grandmother, Lorene Chappell.
A funeral service was held at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, August 25, 2026 at Stevenson Funeral Home in Dickinson, North Dakota with Pastor Scott officiating.
Visitation was held Monday, August 24, 2026 at Stevenson Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggest donations for a memorial that will be established in Gage’s name.
