Alan Miller

October 01, 2026

Alan Miller, age 82, of Springfield, Missouri, died Sunday, September 20, 2026 in Mercy Hospital, surrounded by family.
He was born September 21, 1943 in Cowan Hospital in Greenfield, Missouri, the son and first child of Leroy and Mary Helen Miller.
He graduated from Greenfield High School in the class of 1961.
Alan spent most of his working years at Lily-Tulip/Sweetheart Cup on North Glenstone in Springfield.
Alan was a kind man who was loved by his family and friends.  He was resourceful with many skills, performed most of his own home and auto repairs, and could fix just about anything.  He proudly lived independently and visitors would often remark on his neatly kept home and garage.
Alan developed an interest in genealogy from his grandfather, and was the family historian for over half his life, keeping careful records and labeling photos.
He enjoyed trips to visit and maintain family graves, a hobby he referred to as “cemetery hopping.”  He had a vast historical knowledge of Dade County and the people and places of his youth, and loved entertaining people with his stories.  He was often quick to pull out a pencil and piece of paper to draw a map or chart to better illustrate a point.
Alan is survived by his two sons, Brent of Jefferson City, Missouri, and Mark of Fredericksburg, Virginia, as well as five grandchildren, Aaron, Ryan, Emily, Sarah, and Mackenzie. He was also the proud great-grandfather of three great-grandchildren, Jude, Lucas, and Isaac, and was looking forward to the arrival of #4 early next year.
He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Linda VanderWaal, Janie Miller and Terry Miller.
The body has been cremated, and a private family service will be held to bury his ashes near his parents and brother in Maple Park Cemetery in Springfield.
Arrangements are under the direction of Greenlawn Funeral Home South.
