Steve Jones

October 27, 2026

Steve Jones of Mt. Vernon, Missouri, passed away on the evening of October 22, 2026, peacefully at his home.  He was born in Aurora, Missouri, the son of Gene and Florence Jones.
Steve was a 1967 graduate of Aurora High School and received a Bachelor of Science in Agriculture from the University of Missouri, Columbia in 1971.
On August 7, 1971, Steve married Jeanne Spradling, his high school and college sweetheart and the love of his life.
Steve was a member of the Mt. Vernon Family of Christ, where he attended every Sunday.  He insisted that he had always been compelled to attend church because his mother was an organist and then because his wife was the pianist.  The main reason, of course, was because he was a devoted follower of Jesus Christ.
He was involved with several agriculture-related careers but finally ended up as a dairy farmer for 15 years followed by a career in the beef industry.  He had a successful cow-calf operation for 30 years and prided himself on quality.  A character trait found throughout his life was perfection and he never settled for less.
Steve is survived by his wife of 55 years, Jeanne; a son and daughter-in-law, Brett and Courtnie Jones of Mt. Vernon, Missouri; his two grandchildren, Jett and Acelie, who allowed him to experience a unique and amazing love, the closest to God’s unconditional love that he could have ever experienced here on Earth; a brother, Fred Jones; and a brother-in-law, Jim Spradling.
Steve was preceded in death by his parents, Gene and Florence Jones; his father-in law and mother-in law, Dane and Rose Mae Spradling and his brother-in-law’s wife, Erin Spradling.
Steve will be forever remembered for the massive amount of love he packed into his life as a Christian, a husband, a father and father-in-love, a grandpa, a son and son-in-love, a brother and brother-in-love, an uncle, a great-uncle, a cousin, and a friend.
There is no memorial service planned at this time. Instead, please celebrate his life in the way he would have loved best, by gathering with your loved ones, sharing a good conversation, and creating lasting memories together, preferably with a juicy ribeye steak on your plate.
Arrangements are under the direction of Fossett-Mosher Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon, Missouri.
