James Lee Roy

July 02, 2015

James Lee Roy, of Cane Hill, Missouri and lifelong resident of Dade County, passed away June 18, 2015, at the age of 82.

James was born September 19, 1932, to Clarence and Eunice (Long) Roy. His last years were spent in the same farm house where he was born and raised.

James Lee attended elementary school at Flint Hill, graduating from Stockton in 1950.

On August 9, 1951, he married Genevieve Montgomery.

In 1952, he joined the U.S. Army where he spent most of the next two years in Germany.

After returning home, he and Genevieve moved onto the land where they would farm and raise their family.

He was a lifelong member of the Flint Hill Church of Christ where he led the singing every Sunday for over 50 years. He farmed and raised beef cattle his entire life, although for a short time he also drove a school bus, a milk truck, and owned the general store in Cane Hill.

He never wore the nicest boots, never drove the nicest trucks, never had fancy equipment. He was an Army veteran and a hardworking farmer all his life. He was an honest man, a kind man, a simple man. We sure could use more men like this in the world. He paved the way for our families, set the bar high, and led by example.

He leaves behind to cherish his memory his four children: Randy and Brenda Roy of Cane Hill; Teresa and Mark Perrey of Bartlesville, Oklahoma; Cindy and Chuck Busby of Springfield; and Ronnie and Laura Roy of St. Charles; grandchildren: Josh and Kelly Roy, Alyssa and Jason Maus, Chris and Anna Jane Perrey, Alan Perrey, Adrienne and Brock Robertson, Andrew Roy; and great-grandchildren: Kyndell, Kamryn, Kynlee Roy, George Forrester Perrey, Harvey Brock Robertson, Jacob and Lindsey Maus and Hayden.

Genevieve preceded him in death in 2005, but he found happiness again when he married Norma Roy in June 2010. Norma survives him, as do her children and grandchildren: Debbie and John Turner, Greg Roy, Brad Witt and Micalah Witt.

He is also survived by his sister, Peggy (Russ) Day of Lexington, Kentucky; brothers: Rex (Carol) Roy, Springfield; Larry (Sylvia) Roy, Albuquerque, New Mexico; brother-in-law Don (Peggy) Montgomery, Kansas City; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Memorial services were held Sunday, June 21, 2015 with burial in the Stockton cemetery.
