Delbert Lee Wright

April 01, 2015

Delbert Lee Wright, 82, of Adrian, Missouri, born to Robert Lee Wright and Millie Rebecca (Belcher) Wright on February 7, 1933, departed this life on March 26, 2015 in Adrian, Missouri.

He was born and raised in the Needmore area of Cedar County, Missouri, and accepted Christ into his life as a teenager at the Needmore Church. As a child, he would go hunting with his Grandpa Wright, creating a passion for the outdoors that continued until his departure from this earth.

He went to Eldorado rural school through grade school and graduated from Stockton High School in 1951.

He worked in farming in the area after graduation until he was drafted into the Army in 1953, where he served his country during the Korean War for two years.

Upon completion of his military service, he returned to the Needmore area and resumed farm work for a short period of time before he started working at the aircraft manufacturers in Wichita, Kansas.

During this time period, he met Judy Schaefer of Lockwood, Missouri, and they were married in Dade County, Missouri, on May 23, 1959. To this union, two children were born: Angela Kay and Philip Lee.

In 1960, they moved to the Kansas City, Missouri, area where he worked at Honeywell (Bendix/Allied Signal) until retirement 32 years later.

Delbert and Judy built their dream log home in Adrian, Missouri, where they currently reside. His retirement years were spent in the outdoors: pheasant, quail, and deer hunting.

After having a heart attack, he was no longer able to go on his long pheasant hunting trips and began raising pheasant and quail as a hobby until his health would no longer allow it. He also enjoyed expanding his model train hobby, and going to his grandchildrens and great-grandchildrens various activities where he could always be found on the sidelines, behind the fence, or in the bleachers video-taping their accomplishments.

Survivors include: Judy of the home in Adrian, Missouri; one brother, Donald and wife, Carolyn, of Fair Play, Missouri; two children: Angie Fanning and husband, Gary, of Lamar, Missouri; and Phil Wright and wife, Shannon, of Shawnee, Kansas; four grandchildren: Amber Fidler and husband, Jerry, of Stockton, Missouri; Brian Simpson and wife, Cortney, of Stockton, Missouri; Jessi Thomas and husband, Adam, of Oronogo, Missouri; and Schaefer Lynn Wright of Shawnee, Kansas.

He also leaves four step-grandchildren: Matt Fanning of Springfield, Missouri; Kyla Marshall and husband, Dale, of Lithopolis, Ohio; Michael Fanning and wife, Meghan, of Tulsa, Oklahoma; and Celynda Jeffreys and husband, Tyler, of Walnut Grove, Missouri. In addition, he leaves behind 10 great-grandchildren, six step-great grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a granddaughter, Bowen Leigh Wright.

Services were held at Brumback Funeral Home on Monday, March 30, 2015, with visitation being on Sunday, March 28, 2015. Burial was held at Lindley Prairie Cemetery in Cedar County, Missouri.
